Well, it’s finally happening. After years in which only English-language research journals were available online, Hebrew journals are being made available as well. What’s better is that many of them can be viewed in pdf form, free of charge. In celebration of this, I will update the “useful sites” sidebar with Jewish historical journals that make themselves available for the general public without cost, updating it as needed. Below is the beginning list:
Cathedra – Issues 1-125. This journal is one of the most important, if not the most important journals for Land of Israel Studies. It contains the fruits of research on Israel from pre-history to the present day.
Peamim – Issues 1-100. This is one of the pre-eminent journals for the study of Sefardic/Mizrachi Jewry. It includes everything – from religion to politics to culture to Karaaites.
Iyunim Betkumat Yisrael – All issues. This is a major journal on Zionism, Modern Israel and the Jewish people in general. The articles are thorough and highly informative. There are also special issues dedicated to specific subjects, such as the 1990s scholarly debate on Zionism, Zeev Jabotinsky and society and economy in Israel in the 19th-20th centuries.
