Odds and Ends I

1) Rav Moshe Avigdor Amiel’s great grandkid is republishing his works, and plans to come out with a collection of his apparently voluminous correspondence. I for one look forward to the opportunity to peek more deeply into the mind of this fascinating and idiosyncratic individual.

2) I have placed a poll on Jews who become non-observant in my About page. Please pop over and vote; I’m curious to know what you think!

3) Rabbi Maryles has an interesting post covering the “Orthoprax” or “secular” Charedim who lead double lives. While certainly interesting, I find the Charedim who populate the forums at BeChadrei Charedim even more fascinating. The discussants, almost all Charedim from every conceivable stream talk (and kvetch) about everything from gedolim and their handlers to racism to seforim to full-blown intellectual discussions that no-one will let them have in the real world. Most of them post under a pseudonym, of course…In my opinion, these are the people to watch out for – if change is to come, they’ll be it’s engine.
